Legendary Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak passes away

The news of former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak’s death has surfaced. Heath Streak was diagnosed with liver cancer. Due to this, he was under treatment in a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. But today he has died. This news has been given by his wife. He was 49 years old and is survived by his wife and three children.

Heath Streak was a key player in the Zimbabwe team of the 1990s. He represented Zimbabwe in 65 Test matches and 189 ODIs between 1993 and 2005. He took a total of 216 wickets in Tests and 239 in ODIs. He was the only bowler from Zimbabwe to take more than 100 Test wickets and more than 200 ODI wickets. He scored a total of 1990 runs in Tests, making him the seventh highest run-scorer for Zimbabwe in Test cricket. He has also scored 2943 runs in ODIs.

Played in his first ODI match against South Africa in Bengaluru during the Hero Cup. However, that match was cancelled. He also made his Test debut against Pakistan in the same year. He took eight wickets in his second Test.

Pakistan was one of his favorite opposition teams. He took the most Test wickets (44) against Pakistan. He took five or more wickets seven times in Test cricket, three times against Pakistan.

Heath’s streak followed his debut in eight Test matches, which Zimbabwe won. Heath Streak also played in three ODI World Cups (1996, 1999, 2003). In the 1999 World Cup, Zimbabwe won against India and South Africa. Meanwhile, he took three wickets against India for 36 runs and three wickets against South Africa for 35 not out. He became the captain of Zimbabwe in 2000, but this tenure did not last long.

2001 was the first time he had officially resigned from his captaincy for the first time due to a streak. He meanwhile said that the captaincy is affecting his performance. However, it is believed that there were personal and political reasons behind the scenes.
