The first Test between India and West Indies was played in Dominica. In this match, Team India won by an innings and 141 runs. Indian spinner R Ashwin took 12 wickets in this match. He took 5 wickets in the first innings and 7 wickets in the second innings. With these wickets, Ashwin went past former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan to create a very special record.

This is not the first time that Ashwin has taken 12 or more wickets in Test cricket. He has done this for the 6th time. While Sri Lankan veteran Muttiah Muralitharan also took 12 or more wickets six times in his career. But, Muralidharan reached this figure in 133 Test matches and Ashwin had to resort to just 93 Test matches to reach this figure. This is how Ashwin defeated Muttiah Muralitharan.

Apart from this, Ashwin also completed his 700 international wickets in this Test. He had completed his 709 international wickets by the end of the Test match. With him, he became the second highest international wicket-taker for India, surpassing Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan Singh took 707 wickets in his international career. Along with this, Anil Kumble is number one with 953 wickets in terms of taking the most wickets from India.

Ashwin has played 93 Tests, 113 ODIs and 65 T20 Internationals in his career so far. In Tests, he has taken 486 wickets at an average of 23.21 and scored 3129 runs at an average of 26.96 with the bat. Apart from this, he has taken 151 wickets in ODIs at an average of 33.5. At the same time, in T20 Internationals, he has taken 72 wickets at an average of 23.22.
