England team announced provisional squad for World Cup 2023

England announced the squad for the World Cup 2023 on Wednesday. Ben Stokes has also been included in it. Ben Stokes retired from ODI cricket in 2022. But now he will return from retirement. However, England are yet to announce a permanent squad for the World Cup. But it probably won’t change much. The ICC shared the news with the fans through a tweet.

England have named 15 players in the provisional squad. Importantly, it does not include Harry Brooke and Jofra Archer. Archer may not play in the World Cup. He was not fully fit after the injury. England selector Luke Wright has said that Archer will only be a part of the team as a reserve player. “This is the team we will be moving forward with,” Wright said, according to a news release on ICC.

Referring to Ben Stokes, he said, “The team has been kept very balanced. The return of Ben Stokes will add to the quality. He has the ability to win matches. He is also ahead in leadership. I think, fans will enjoy the return of Ben Stokes.

It is worth mentioning that the first match of World Cup 2023 will be played between England and New Zealand on October 5. This match will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. England are yet to officially name the players for the World Cup to the ICC. But soon the England board may submit the team to the ICC.
